Personal Tax Manager / Private Client Tax Manager

About the role

McGinnis Loy Associates is partnering with a Top40 accountancy practice to recruit a Personal Tax Manager / Private Client Tax Manager for its growing team near Watford. Reporting to the Personal Tax Partner, you will lead a portfolio of high‑net‑worth clients, providing both compliance and advisory tax services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients, reviewing returns and handling complex queries.
• Deliver personal tax advisory services to high‑net‑worth individuals and families.
• Identify and promote value‑added private client tax opportunities.
• Maintain internal workflows and ensure private client tax reports are up‑to‑date.
• Liaise with HMRC to resolve complex queries, disputes and obtain clearances.
• Support the client billing process efficiently.
• Research technical tax queries and propose solutions for partner review.
• Supervise and train qualified tax colleagues within the private client department.
• Review complex HNW personal tax returns to ensure consistent quality.
• Update the Tax Partner on tax‑efficient family structures, IHT/CGT re‑balancing and legislative changes.

Required profile

• CTA and/or ATT qualification (or equivalent).
• Experience in a Top100, regional accountancy practice or tax boutique.
• Proven ability to manage demanding clients and complex HMRC queries.
• Strong staff‑management and coaching skills.
• Excellent teamwork, relationship‑building and pressure‑handling abilities.
