Pharmacy Support Worker – Higher Level (Band 3)

About the role
The Pharmacy Support Worker (Higher Level) will join the acute and general medicine admissions team at Western General Hospital. You will work closely with both clinical and pharmacy teams to ensure safe, timely medicines management for in‑patients.
Key responsibilities
- Lead medicines management on the ward – place and receive orders, rotate stock and educate nurses on supply and storage.
- Perform higher‑level activities after training, such as checking patients’ own medicines, ensuring continuity of supply, ordering inpatient medicines and reducing missed doses.
- Support timely patient discharges by facilitating medication availability.
- Assist in training and development of the pharmacy support worker team to maintain high service standards.
- Spend time in the dispensary labeling and assembling prescribed medicines for in‑patients and out‑patients.
Required profile
- Passion for learning, teamwork and improving patient care.
- Experience or interest in working within an acute hospital pharmacy environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clinical staff and provide education.
- Willingness to undertake additional training for higher‑level activities.
