PIP2 Investigator – Serious & Complex Crime

About the role

The Thames Valley Police CID is recruiting a PIP2 Investigator to lead investigations into serious and complex crimes. The role mirrors the development path of a Detective Constable and offers full training for handling high‑profile cases.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and preserve evidence accurately within the investigatory process.
• Record witness statements that meet CPS evidential standards.
• Conduct house‑to‑house enquiries, seize and review media footage, and handle exhibits.
• Manage suspects during compliant arrests and interview detained individuals.
• Handle a workload of serious and complex crimes, including unexpected deaths.
• Review material under the Criminal Procedure Investigation Act to identify further lines of enquiry.
• View, copy, and analyse CCTV or mobile phone footage as required.
• Attend court to give evidence on exhibits, statements, and investigation outcomes.
• Travel across the local police area and work flexible, unsocial hours, often alone.

Required profile

• Experience in CID investigations or an equivalent policing role.
• Current PIP1 or PIP2 accreditation.
• Full UK driving licence and ability to travel to multiple locations.
• Willingness to work flexible and unsocial hours, including lone working situations.
