Plant Manager – 12‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

The Plant Manager will lead the day‑to‑day operations of Imerys’ plant in Plymouth on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis. Reporting to senior leadership, you will ensure safe, efficient and cost‑effective production while upholding the company’s environmental and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with UK health and safety legislation (HASAWA) and Imerys‑specific requirements.
• Drive EHS initiatives, report incidents in the Enablon system and sustain ISO 14000:2015 accreditation.
• Oversee calcining and surface‑treated calcined production, seeking year‑on‑year cost optimisation.
• Plan and execute local four‑year shutdowns and coordinate larger corporate events.
• Collaborate with commercial teams, customers, community representatives and regulators.
• Ensure accurate process reporting, statutory documentation and ISO 9001 quality compliance.
• Prepare, review and present Opex and CapEx budgets and achieve or exceed financial targets.
• Recruit, train, coach and develop staff, including PDPs and succession planning.
• Lead capital projects through Hazop reviews, prioritisation and continuous‑improvement programmes.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a manufacturing or processing plant.
• Strong knowledge of UK health and safety law (HASAWA) and environmental regulations.
• Track record of maintaining ISO 14000 and ISO 9001 certifications.
• Experience with budgeting, cost control and financial reporting.
• Demonstrated people‑management skills, including recruitment and development.
• Ability to coordinate shutdowns and large‑scale operational projects.
