PMLD Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant secondary school in East Ham, East London. You will work within a specialist provision supporting pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, helping them develop communication, sensory and independence skills.

Key responsibilities

• Support students with complex physical, sensory and medical needs throughout the school day.
• Assist teachers and therapists in delivering multi‑sensory, personalised lessons.
• Provide personal care while maintaining dignity and respect.
• Promote communication using strategies such as Makaton, PECS and sensory cues.
• Foster a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and external professionals to monitor progress.
• Support pupils’ social, emotional and physical development.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND, preferably PMLD (desirable).
• Caring, patient and resilient attitude.
• Willingness to provide personal care when needed.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Passion for improving outcomes for students with complex needs.
• Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 or other SEND‑related credentials (advantageous but not essential).
