Press and PR Officer – Corporate Communications

About the role

Lancashire Constabulary is looking for a motivated Press and PR Officer to join its Corporate Communications team. You will help shape the force’s reputation, build public trust, and support operational policing through proactive and reactive media engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead media management for serious and major crimes and incidents across the county under the Senior Press and PR Officer.
• Identify and manage incidents, including social‑media issues, that could attract national or regional coverage, protecting the Constabulary’s reputation.
• Promote positive policing work and maximise operational PR opportunities via traditional and digital channels.
• Collaborate with the Media and Engagement department to deliver integrated press, internal communications, campaigns and digital content.
• Support wider policing activities, attend strategic meetings (e.g., Gold Command) and provide expert advice on media matters.

Required profile

• Proven experience in media liaison, press briefings, conferences, interview facilitation and communication strategy planning.
• Ability to work effectively in a demanding, team‑oriented environment.
• Experience writing and distributing press releases for diverse media outlets.
• Background in public relations or journalism within police or other public‑sector organisations.
• Qualification in journalism or public relations equivalent to NVQ Level 5.
• Full UK manual driving licence.
• Willingness to undergo recruitment vetting, a minimum three‑year UK residency, be at least 18 years old, and pass a medical assessment.
