Primary Teaching Assistant – Classroom Support for SEN

About the role

We are looking for a Primary Teaching Assistant to join a Multi‑Academy Trust in Leeds, supporting the SEN provision for children with autism and other SEND needs. The role involves working closely with teachers and specialist professionals to create a safe, stimulating learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and organise learning materials under teacher supervision.
• Work with individuals or groups inside and outside the classroom.
• Adapt support to meet each child’s emotional, social and educational needs.
• Monitor and promote children’s physical, social and emotional welfare.
• Collaborate with speech‑language therapists, physiotherapists and other specialists.
• Maintain a safe, healthy classroom and follow safeguarding procedures.

Required profile

• Experience supporting children with autism or similar SEND requirements.
• Ability to help children who struggle to self‑regulate emotions.
• Willingness to work alongside multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child‑safety standards.
