Principal Designer - Building Regulations

About the role

A well-established multidisciplinary consultancy, known for its technical expertise and collaborative culture, is expanding its London team. It delivers high-profile commercial and mixed-use developments across the UK, combining design management, health and safety and regulatory compliance from inception to delivery. As its pipeline grows, it needs an experienced Principal Designer to manage Building Regulations compliance and pre-construction responsibilities on major schemes. This is a full-time opportunity for someone with a background in architecture, technical design, engineering or project management.

Key responsibilities

• Act as Principal Designer under CDM 2015 for major projects
• Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety aspects during the pre-construction phase
• Review and ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations
• Coordinate risk assessments and mitigation strategies with the design team
• Prepare and manage Pre-Construction Information packages
• Maintain and contribute to the Health and Safety File throughout the design lifecycle
• Liaise with the Principal Contractor and ensure smooth handover of responsibilities
• Lead QA and compliance reviews with internal and external stakeholders

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in a Principal Designer or equivalent role
• Background in architecture, engineering, project management or design health and safety
• Demonstrable experience leading Building Regulations compliance on large commercial projects
• Knowledge of CDM 2015 and experience preparing pre-construction documentation
• Current or recent experience delivering UK-based projects
• Strong communication, coordination and stakeholder management skills
