Principal Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Orano is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its UK engineering team, working from either Warrington or Abingdon. You will lead multi‑disciplinary projects from FEED through commissioning and support plant operations in a regulated nuclear environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and manage technical studies across all project phases.
• Design mechanical processes, from concept to detailed design and construction support.
• Produce technical notes, substantiation notes, mechanical flow diagrams, P&IDs, layout drawings and hazard analyses.
• Develop mechanical handling solutions, powder transport, milling, compaction and glove‑box systems.
• Coordinate technical reviews with supply‑chain partners and Orano experts.
• Provide technical networking and mentorship within the organization.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in nuclear or other regulated sectors.
• Proven experience delivering projects for Sellafield or Magnox sites (desirable).
• Member of a professional engineering body (desirable).
• Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to undergo security vetting.

• Creation of P&IDs, flow diagrams and layout drawings.
• Hazard and malfunction management.
