Principal Pharmacist – Medicines Efficiency

About the role
We are seeking an experienced clinical pharmacist to lead the Medicines Efficiency Team within Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. The Principal Pharmacist – Medicines Efficiency will work closely with the Chief Pharmacist, the Project Management Office and clinical teams to drive cost‑effective use of high‑cost medicines, especially biologics and biosimilars, across all Trust sites.
Key responsibilities
- Support delivery of biosimilars switch and medicines efficiency programmes.
- Oversee identification, implementation and evaluation of medicines optimisation initiatives and efficiency schemes, tracking outcomes and reporting.
- Update and inform the Medicines Value Group on strategic approach and savings delivery.
- Collaborate with pharmacy, medical, nursing and PMO colleagues to promote safe, effective, value‑based prescribing of high‑cost drugs.
- Provide leadership and line management for the medicines efficiency team.
- Manage financial and workforce resources to achieve cost‑improvement targets.
- Work with the Formulary Pharmacist and Drugs and Therapeutics Committee on high‑cost and specialist medicines.
- Ensure timely reporting to NHS England and NHS Frimley ICB on cost‑saving initiatives.
Required profile
- Qualified pharmacist with substantial experience in clinical pharmacy and medicines optimisation.
- Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary projects and delivering cost‑saving outcomes.
- Strong understanding of biosimilars, biologics and high‑cost drug management.
- Experience of working within NHS Trusts or similar healthcare organisations.
- Ability to manage a team and allocate resources effectively.
