Principal Protection & Control Engineer

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Principal Protection & Control Engineer to strengthen its Power Transmission and Distribution team. The role involves delivering innovative, secure, and renewable‑ready solutions for high‑voltage grid projects across the UK and internationally.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver power transmission grid concepts from feasibility to delivery.
• Design and specify protection and control schemes, produce tender documents and detailed design drawings.
• Conduct fault studies, calculate protection settings and verify results.
• Configure relays, support commissioning activities and review commissioning documentation.
• Engage with clients on transmission and distribution installations and contribute to feasibility studies.

Required profile

• Degree‑level qualification, ideally progressing towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Strong knowledge of relay designs and UK transmission & distribution practices.
• Experience on international power projects.
• Excellent communication skills.
