Process Operator – 5‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

This is a five‑month fixed‑term contract for a Process Operator in Witham. You will work in a laboratory environment, supporting analytical work by weighing samples, preparing glassware and transporting materials. Full training is provided for candidates with a genuine interest in science.

Key responsibilities

• Weigh analytical samples accurately using laboratory balances.
• Load and unload laboratory dishwashers and wash glassware.
• Transport materials between sites on foot or using the company van.
• Prepare samples under the guidance of the Chemist or Laboratory Supervisor.
• Maintain equipment, ensure efficient use and follow cleaning and housekeeping standards.
• Report any deviations from methods, systems or procedures to the Supervisor.
• Act as a porter for other company units when holding a valid driving licence.

Required profile

• Genuine interest in science and willingness to learn laboratory techniques.
• Highly organised, able to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy.
• Valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (public transport not available to the site).
• Ability to follow written instructions and quality standards.

Required skills

• Computer literacy.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 (UKAS) and ISO 9001:2000 standards.
• Laboratory weighing techniques.

What we offer

• Annual salary between £25,000 and £26,256 plus a 10% shift allowance.
• 37.5‑hour work week with rotating 6‑am to 1‑pm and 1‑pm to 8‑pm shifts.
