Project Officer – Kemble (Archaeology)

About the role
Cotswold Archaeology is seeking a Project Officer to lead the archaeological direction and site management of larger, complex fieldwork projects based in Kemble. The role reports to the Senior Project Officer and is responsible for delivering fieldwork on time, within budget, and to high quality and health‑and‑safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Manage delivery of fieldwork to time, budget, quality and H&S requirements.
- Line‑manage and develop staff, providing performance reviews, training and coaching.
- Assure the quality of archaeological recording and oversee compilation of archives.
- Author fieldwork reports, stratigraphic accounts and summaries.
- Report project progress, logistical and H&S issues to Project Managers and maintain client liaison.
- Maintain vehicles, plant and equipment, ensuring accurate records and prompt reporting of incidents.
- Promote public awareness of Cotswold Archaeology through displays, publications and media liaison.
Required profile
- Knowledge of British archaeology across all periods and experience supervising large fieldwork projects.
- Ability to write clear, accurate fieldwork reports and stratigraphic accounts.
- Membership of CIfA at PCIfA level (or commitment to join) – ACIfA essential for senior roles.
- Current valid CSCS card or recent CSCS test pass; otherwise willingness to pass CITB HS&E test (paid by employer).
- Full driving licence and willingness to drive company 4x4s and vans.
Required skills
- Archaeological fieldwork and stratigraphic recording.
- Report writing and documentation.
- Health & safety compliance (CSCS or CITB HS&E).
- Vehicle operation and maintenance.

- Salary £37,021 – £39,718 per year (dependent on experience).
