Public Health Consultant

About the role
The NHS Thames Valley Integrated Care Board is creating a new Population Health Unit and seeks two Public Health Consultants to lead it. This senior position sits within the Strategy and Commissioning Directorate and reports to the Director of Public Health, offering a unique chance to shape health policy for over 2.5 million residents across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and lead the Population Health Unit, defining its strategic direction.
- Develop evidence‑based programmes that support commissioning decisions and reduce health inequalities.
- Build and maintain partnerships with local authorities, NHS organisations, academic institutions and other system partners.
- Manage a multidisciplinary team of analysts, specialists and trainees, including budget oversight.
- Champion innovation, evaluation and the translation of intelligence into actionable public‑health interventions.
Required profile
- Extensive experience in public health, population health, or related fields.
- Proven leadership ability in multidisciplinary, multi‑agency environments.
- Strong understanding of NHS commissioning, local authority public health practice and health‑inequality frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
