Qualified Social Worker – Adult Safeguarding (Somerset Council)

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Social Worker to join the Adult Safeguarding Team at Somerset Council. The successful candidate will work on a hybrid basis, spending Wednesdays at County Hall in Taunton and travelling across Somerset to conduct safeguarding investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out adult safeguarding enquiries, including S42(2) investigations where applicable.
• Assess risk, develop protection plans and coordinate with multi‑agency partners.
• Prepare case reports and maintain accurate records in the council’s case management system.
• Visit service users and providers across Somerset to monitor outcomes and ensure compliance.
• Contribute to team meetings and share best practice within the safeguarding network.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker (registered with the appropriate professional body).
• Minimum 1 year experience in an adult safeguarding service, or 2 years of conducting S42(2) enquiries.
• Ability to travel throughout Somerset and work on‑site in Taunton one day per week.
• Flexibility to work a hybrid schedule.
