Qualified Social Worker – Kinship/SGO Team

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Qualified Social Worker to join the Kinship/SGO Team within Bolton Council. This contract position offers a hybrid working arrangement, allowing you to work both from the office and in the community to support kinship carers and special guardians.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct assessments of kinship carers and special guardians.
• Carry out annual and ad‑hoc reviews to monitor the care of looked‑after children.
• Provide supervision, guidance and training to carers to ensure high‑quality care.
• Identify and arrange additional support or training needs for carers.
• Advise colleagues on placement of children with kinship carers or substitute families.
• Participate in reviews, case conferences, strategy and network meetings, offering expert advice.
• Develop and deliver information and advisory services for colleagues and the public.

Required profile

• Qualified social worker with post‑qualifying experience.
• Demonstrated experience working with kinship carers and special guardians.
• Strong understanding of looked‑after children legislation and practice.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multi‑agency partners.

Required skills

• Assessment and review of care arrangements.
• Supervision and support provision for carers.
• Knowledge of kinship fostering and special guardianship processes.
