Qualified Train Driver

About the role

Arriva is building a talent pool for future Qualified Train Driver positions on the Grand Central network. The role involves operating trains safely and on time, primarily working alone in the cab while maintaining communication with conductors, dispatch, and control teams.

Key responsibilities

• Drive and dispose of traction units safely according to company instructions.
• Maintain personal and passenger safety at all times.
• Keep a clean and tidy working environment and wear provided uniform and safety clothing.
• Perform competence and proficiency assessments as required.
• Identify, locate and, where possible, rectify train or traction unit faults and follow fault‑reporting procedures.
• Maintain up‑to‑date route and traction knowledge and report any shortfalls immediately.
• Communicate effectively with staff and customers to ensure safety and service quality.

Required profile

• Holder of a valid European Train Driving Licence.
• Minimum of 2 years productive train‑driving experience after completing training, examination and route learning.
• Thorough knowledge of operational rules, regulations and instructions related to train driving.
• Ability to work a flexible roster averaging 35 hours per week, including early‑morning and late‑night shifts.
• Willingness to lodge overnight in London on occasion.
