Quality Assurance Engineer – Facilities & Infrastructure

About the role

As a Quality Assurance Engineer at Babcock’s Devonport Royal Dockyard, you will join the Facilities and Infrastructure QA team to ensure that critical assets, facilities and infrastructure meet all customer, statutory and regulatory requirements. Your work will directly support the maintenance and sustainment of the Royal Navy’s submarines and warships, contributing to national security.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent assurance across the project lifecycle, from quality planning to installation, commissioning and handover.
• Guide project stakeholders on quality planning, installation, commissioning and handover activities.
• Verify that project outputs comply with defined quality standards, specifications and design intent.
• Develop and implement Quality Management Plans and Inspection & Test Plans.
• Maintain robust quality records and support audits, risk management and continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Completed recognised apprenticeship in an engineering discipline (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems.
• Experience of quality assurance and control techniques within an engineering environment, including supply‑chain activities.
• Understanding of audit processes, quality assurance methodologies and risk‑management principles.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance – sole UK national required.
