Quality Technician

About the role
We are seeking a Quality Technician to join a leading engineering manufacturer in Killingworth. The role involves supporting shop‑floor quality activities, managing customer returns, and driving continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the customer returns process, including logging, tracking, investigation coordination, and reporting.
- Control and disposition non‑conforming/reject material in line with company procedures.
- Ensure traceability and accurate records for all quality‑related activities.
- Support shop‑floor quality activities and liaise with production teams.
- Assist 8D investigations by implementing containment actions, collecting data and gathering evidence.
- Use structured problem‑solving tools to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within manufacturing processes.
- Create, update, and review manufacturing and work instructions, ensuring clear and controlled documentation.
- Support the implementation of standardized processes and best practices.
- Support the calibration system by tracking equipment status and coordinating internal/external calibration activities.
- Provide general quality support across inspection, testing, and process validation as required.
Required profile
- Previous experience as a Quality Technician or in a similar quality role within engineering or manufacturing.
- Proficient IT and office skills, including Excel, Word, data entry and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational abilities.
- Ability to follow structured processes and procedures.
- Effective communication skills and capability to work cross‑functionally.
- Understanding of technical drawings, bills of materials or assembly documentation.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 standards.
