Quantity Surveyor – Public Sector Projects

About the role
Our client is seeking a commercially‑savvy Quantity Surveyor to manage the full commercial lifecycle of construction projects for government and public sector clients. The role involves cost planning, tender preparation, contract administration and financial reporting to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to contractual standards.
Key responsibilities
- Manage all commercial aspects of construction projects from pre‑contract through to final account.
- Prepare cost plans, budgets and tender documentation in line with public sector requirements.
- Evaluate subcontractor tenders, negotiate contracts and monitor subcontractor performance.
- Administer contracts (NEC, JCT) including change control, valuations and final accounts.
- Monitor project costs, identify risks and opportunities, and report on financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with government frameworks, audit requirements and procurement regulations.
- Collaborate with project managers, design teams and clients to maintain cost control and programme alignment.
- Prepare and present cost reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support dispute resolution and provide commercial advice as required.
Required profile
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contracting environment.
- Demonstrated delivery of projects for government or public sector clients.
- Strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT contract forms.
- Experience working within public procurement frameworks such as Crown Commercial Service or local authority frameworks.
- Excellent commercial awareness, negotiation and analytical reporting skills.
- Degree‑qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Membership (or working towards) of a professional body such as RICS or CIOB.
