Registered Nurse – Outpatients

About the role

The Registered Nurse – Outpatients will deliver high‑quality nursing care to patients attending outpatient clinics at The Balfour, Orkney. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure a safe, patient‑centred environment and support the delivery of evidence‑based care in line with the NMC Code.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to outpatients, including assessments, treatments and health education.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with confidentiality and infection‑control policies.
• Take charge of the shift in the senior nurse’s absence, coordinating staff and resources.
• Supervise, teach and assess student nurses, junior colleagues and unregistered staff when on duty.
• Contribute to the development of clinical practice and participate in quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (or awaiting NMC registration) with experience in acute or medical nursing.
• Current statutory training and a solid understanding of the NMC Code of Conduct.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to use initiative, manage time and maintain a proactive approach to patient care.

Required skills

• Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control procedures.
• Competence in delivering evidence‑based, patient‑centred nursing care.
