Relief Hostess / Domestic Assistant – Healthcare

About the role

Join the Great Western Hospital team as a Relief Hostess / Domestic Assistant, providing essential food service and cleaning support to patients and staff. This part‑time, temporary position offers a dynamic environment where your work directly enhances patient experience.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and distribute patient meals, snacks, and beverages while respecting dietary needs and allergies.
• Maintain safe food handling, record temperatures, and manage fridge logs in line with HACCP standards.
• Clean patient areas, bathrooms, kitchens and communal spaces to NHS cleaning standards, following the Domestic Cleaning Schedule.
• Use cleaning chemicals safely in compliance with COSHH regulations and report any maintenance issues.
• Follow hand‑hygiene, PPE and infection‑control procedures, responding to spills, bodily fluids and isolation area requirements.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, dietitians and infection‑control teams, communicating effectively with patients.

Required profile

• Enthusiasm for delivering high‑quality food service in a healthcare setting.
• Ability to work shift patterns (07:30‑13:30, five days a week) and adapt to occasional weekend work.
• Commitment to hygiene, safety and patient‑centred care.

Required skills

• Knowledge of HACCP food safety principles.
• Familiarity with COSHH regulations for chemical handling.
• Understanding of infection‑control procedures.
• Experience recording food temperatures and maintaining hygiene logs.
