Relief Porter/Driver – NHS Scotland

About the role

This position provides relief portering and driving services across all shifts, including day, night and weekend, to support the efficient delivery of patient care and supplies within NHS facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Operate vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes to transport goods, medical supplies and patients safely.
• Provide portering services such as moving patients, equipment and linen between departments.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety standards while driving and handling loads.
• Maintain accurate records of journeys, deliveries and patient transfers.
• Assist with loading and unloading of vehicles and ensure vehicles are kept clean and serviceable.

Required profile

• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
• Commitment to NHS values of equality, diversity and patient‑centred care.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
• Willingness to undergo PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) checks and hold a satisfactory record.

Required skills

• Valid driving licence for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.
• PVG Scheme membership or ability to obtain it before starting.
• Basic knowledge of safe manual handling and infection control procedures.
