Research Technician – Clinical Islet Isolation & Transplantation (Maternity Cover)

About the role

We are seeking a Research Technician to join the Human Islet Isolation Facility at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM) in Churchill Hospital. The role involves supporting clinical islet isolation and transplantation procedures and offers the chance to conduct supervised research in islet biology.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with all stages of the clinical islet isolation process.
• Support transplantation activities and related laboratory work.
• Participate in out-of-hours on-call rota for islet isolation services.
• Undertake research projects under the guidance of senior scientists.

Required profile

• Ability to work accurately within a team and adapt to flexible workload demands.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills with effective communication at all levels.
• Willingness to join the out-of-hours rota.
• Previous laboratory experience is desirable but not essential; full training will be provided.

Required skills

• Laboratory techniques relevant to cell/islet handling.

• Fixed-term maternity cover contract until 31 March 2027 (Grade 04S).
• Salary £28,437‑£32,108 per annum plus standby payment (3 % of basic salary) and hourly on‑call rates.
