Risk and Compliance Counsel – London

About the role

This position is with a prestigious international law firm based in London. The Risk and Compliance Counsel will protect the firm’s reputation by identifying, assessing and mitigating conflicts of interest and ensuring all engagements meet ethical and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse potential conflicts for new business intake and lateral hires, applying professional conduct rules and firm policy.
• Consult with internal stakeholders such as the Office of General Counsel, Risk Management Committee and New Business & Conflicts leadership to resolve complex issues.
• Review client engagement terms, contracts and advise attorneys on compliance with ethical requirements.
• Draft waivers, establish and maintain ethical walls to safeguard sensitive information.
• Develop and deliver training programmes on professional conduct, risk management and compliance policies for legal and non‑legal staff.
• Monitor industry trends and legal developments that may affect conflict functions.
• Participate in project teams to improve processes and support special initiatives.

Required profile

• Qualified to practice law in England & Wales with an undergraduate degree.
• Minimum three years’ experience in a law firm or corporate general counsel environment.
• Strong legal research and analytical abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for advising attorneys at all levels.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Familiarity with Intapp conflict‑management products.
