School Caretaker – Facilities Assistant

About the role

We are looking for a reliable and proactive caretaker/facilities assistant to support the Head of Facilities Management at a school in Garston. The role starts on 6 July 2026 and is initially for four weeks, with the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

• Act as key holder, opening and closing the premises and ensuring site security.
• Respond to out‑of‑hours emergencies and supervise external contractors in line with safeguarding protocols.
• Carry out general maintenance, first‑line repairs and minor redecoration.
• Support cleaning teams, handle deliveries, and perform porterage duties such as moving furniture and setting up events.
• Operate and monitor building systems including heating, CCTV and security systems.
• Maintain caretaking equipment, conduct routine safety checks and assist with emergency procedures.
• Perform routine checks on the school minibus and drive when required.

Required profile

• Experience in caretaking, facilities or maintenance roles.
• Basic DIY and repair skills with a strong awareness of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently, respond to emergencies and communicate effectively with teams.
• Flexible, reliable and proactive attitude.
• Willingness to obtain an Enhanced DBS check or be on the update service.

What we offer
