Science Teaching Assistant (GCSE) – SEN Support

About the role

Reed Education is recruiting on behalf of a specialist SEN secondary school for a dedicated Science Teaching Assistant. You will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them access the GCSE Science curriculum and progress towards their qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Support students during Science lessons covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
• Provide targeted 1:1 and small‑group interventions to raise attainment.
• Assist with practical experiments and classroom preparation.
• Support pupils with a range of educational needs, including SEND and SEMH.
• Encourage positive engagement, attendance and behaviour.
• Work closely with teachers to monitor progress and identify learning gaps.
• Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of GCSE Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics).
• Experience supporting secondary‑aged students.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Behaviour management capability.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
• Desirable: previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant, experience with SEND/SEMH, a science‑related qualification, or a track record of delivering effective interventions.
