Secondary SEMH Outreach Advisor (Interim)

About the role

Lambeth Council is seeking an Interim Secondary SEMH Outreach Advisor to support pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour. The role works across mainstream secondary schools, providing early, coordinated outreach and specialist advice to improve attendance, reduce exclusions and strengthen inclusive practice.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver the Experts at Hand model by offering timely SEMH advice and support to schools.
• Coordinate preventative interventions and embed effective strategies before needs escalate.
• Collaborate with multi‑professional teams including EHCP, social care, educational psychologists, health and mental health colleagues.
• Develop and share resources and early‑intervention programmes for at‑risk pupils.
• Contribute to data collection and analysis to inform service development.

Required profile

• Experience working with secondary‑school pupils who have SEMH needs or behavioural challenges.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with school staff, families and external agencies.
• Strong understanding of SEND legislation, alternative provision reform and multi‑agency working.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of SEMH assessment and intervention frameworks.
• Familiarity with safeguarding and exclusion policies.
• Ability to produce clear written reports and guidance.
