SEMH and Wellbeing Support Assistant – Primary School

About the role
This full‑time position supports children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs in a welcoming primary school in Calne. You will work closely with teaching staff, SEN professionals and external agencies to create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one support for pupils experiencing anxiety, emotional dysregulation or learning barriers.
- Deliver small‑group interventions that build confidence, resilience and social skills.
- Implement behaviour‑management strategies to promote positive outcomes.
- Build trusting relationships so pupils feel understood and valued.
- Collaborate with teachers, SEN staff and external agencies to support individual learning plans.
- Contribute to a supportive, inclusive school culture.
Required profile
- Patient, resilient and empathetic nature.
- Confidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- Genuine interest in psychology, mental health, education or child development.
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals (desirable but not essential).
Required skills

- Competitive daily rate of £90‑£105 (based on experience).
- Hands‑on experience supporting children with SEMH and additional learning needs.
- Ongoing mentorship from experienced SEN and pastoral professionals.
- Pathway to careers in educational psychology, teaching, therapy, counselling or youth work.
- Dedicated consultant support throughout the placement.
