SEMH Teaching Assistant – Lewisham (Full‑Time)

About the role

We are seeking a resilient and proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 5‑16 within a specialist SEMH setting in Lewisham. The role involves working closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support, helping pupils manage behaviour, regulate emotions and engage with learning. The school is a specialist provision judged ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2023 and is located within walking distance of a London Overground station.

Key responsibilities

• Implement behaviour strategies and de‑escalation techniques in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
• Support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and regulation through targeted interventions.
• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group assistance to facilitate learning engagement for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Collaborate with teachers and pastoral staff to maintain a structured, supportive learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may present challenging behaviour.
• Confidence in behaviour management and emotional regulation support.
• Willingness to work full‑time and start immediately.
