Behaviour Teaching Assistant

About the role

The PRU in Lewisham is seeking a confident and resilient Behaviour Teaching Assistant to support pupils who have struggled with mainstream education. You will work within a small, supportive team to help young people re‑engage with learning while providing clear boundaries and encouragement throughout the school day.

Key responsibilities

• Support pupils individually and in small groups, assisting with classroom activities.
• Help develop pupils' social and behavioural skills to enable progress.
• Provide consistent boundaries and encouragement, maintaining calm under pressure.
• Establish clear expectations while building positive relationships with pupils.
• Encourage better choices and support re‑engagement with learning.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with challenging or disruptive behaviour.
• Experience in a PRU, AP, SEN or youth setting (advantageous).
• Strong communication skills and a confident approach to behaviour management.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and establish clear boundaries.
• Resilience and the capacity to develop positive relationships with pupils.
