SEMH Teaching Assistant – Pastoral Role (Newcastle)

About the role
This full‑time position supports an alternative provision setting in Newcastle, focusing on students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The role is pastoral, requiring calm, resilient individuals who can build trusting relationships and help young people manage challenging behaviours.
Key responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day pastoral support to students with SEMH needs.
- Assist in managing behaviour positively and consistently.
- Support learners both inside the classroom and during break times.
- Collaborate closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team.
- Contribute to the personal development and wellbeing of each student.
Required profile
- Strong emotional resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for building trust with young people.
- Full‑time availability from the start date (week commencing 1 June).
- Enhanced DBS check on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
Required skills
- Experience working with SEMH or challenging behaviour (preferred).
- Ability to maintain professional conduct in high‑stress situations.
