SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools, Brighton

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within primary schools in Brighton & Hove. The role involves supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop positive relationships.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
• Build trusting relationships to promote emotional wellbeing.
• Assist pupils in developing self‑regulation, resilience and social skills.
• Support behaviour management strategies and personalised intervention plans.
• Encourage positive engagement with learning and school life.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, parents and external agencies.
• Monitor progress and contribute to the development of support strategies.

Required profile

• Experience working with children or young people, especially those with additional needs or behavioural challenges.
• Calm, patient and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Resilience and positivity in challenging situations.
• Genuine passion for supporting children’s emotional and educational development.
