SEMH Teaching Assistant – Support Pupils with Social & Emotional Needs

About the role
We are seeking a caring and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in Thurrock. In this permanent, full‑time position you will help pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs build confidence, develop positive relationships and reach their full potential.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with SEMH needs within the classroom and on the school premises.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, pastoral staff and external specialists to implement personalised support plans.
- Encourage pupil engagement, emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour through tailored activities.
- Monitor progress and report observations to senior staff to inform interventions.
- Assist in creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Required profile
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEN or additional needs.
- Patient, positive and adaptable attitude.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
Required skills
- Understanding of SEMH challenges and appropriate support strategies.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils.
- Effective record‑keeping and observation skills.
