SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant for Autism Support

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work with a non‑verbal pupil diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a Hackney school. This full‑time, five‑day‑a‑week position starts in September and offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on a child's educational journey.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one support tailored to the pupil’s individual needs.
• Implement and adapt communication strategies to facilitate learning.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure a cohesive learning environment.
• Monitor progress and report observations to the teaching team.

Required profile

• Previous experience in SEN, especially supporting pupils with ASD.
• Experience working with non‑verbal children.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Patient, nurturing, and proactive attitude.

Required skills

• Knowledge of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).
• Familiarity with Makaton sign language.
• Use of visual supports to aid comprehension.
