Learning Support Assistant – Special Needs School

About the role

We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join our specialist primary school in Hackney. You will work with pupils on the autism spectrum, helping them develop confidence, independence and academic progress.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support throughout the school day, following individual support plans.
• Assist pupils with learning, communication, social development and sensory or behavioural challenges.
• Support children during lessons, break times, lunchtimes and other school activities, fostering a safe and inclusive environment.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists and other staff to deliver tailored interventions.

Required profile

• Passionate about working with children with special educational needs, particularly ASD.
• Patient, calm, empathetic and able to remain resilient in challenging situations.
• Excellent communication skills and a strong team‑player mindset.
• Willingness to learn and follow specialist strategies, even if prior ASD experience is limited.
