SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant for Non‑Verbal ASD Pupil

About the role
Prospero Teaching is seeking a compassionate SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work with a non‑verbal pupil diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a Tower Hamlets school. The role provides dedicated, one‑to‑one support to help the child access the curriculum and develop communication skills.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver personalised 1:1 support throughout the school day.
- Implement and reinforce communication strategies such as PECS, Makaton or visual supports.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to adapt learning activities.
- Monitor the pupil’s progress and report observations to the teaching team.
- Maintain a safe, nurturing environment that encourages independence.
Required profile
- Previous experience supporting SEN pupils, particularly those with ASD.
- Experience working with non‑verbal children.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- Patient, nurturing and proactive approach.
Required skills
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton or visual support systems (desirable).
