SEN Cover Supervisor – Flexible Day-to-Day Role

About the role

Randstad Education is seeking adaptable and resilient individuals to join a specialist school in Leeds as SEN Cover Supervisors. This flexible, day‑to‑day position allows you to step into classrooms on short notice, supporting pupils with autism spectrum conditions and related communication needs.

Key responsibilities

• Enter classrooms across various key stages to cover planned or unexpected staff absences.
• Lead small groups and deliver pre‑planned learning activities supplied by the class teacher.
• Maintain a calm, safe, and sensory‑friendly environment tailored to each pupil’s needs.
• Use visual schedules, symbol systems, and adapted communication to facilitate engagement.
• Direct teaching assistants to ensure consistent positive behaviour support.
• Provide clear handovers and feedback to regular staff regarding pupil progress and classroom dynamics.

Required profile

• Confidence to step into new classroom settings and adapt quickly.
• Foundational knowledge of autism spectrum conditions, sensory processing differences, and communication strategies.
• Experience with low‑arousal approaches, de‑escalation techniques, and positive behaviour management.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for interaction with pupils and school staff.
