SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary/Secondary (Twickenham)

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEN school in Twickenham. The role will involve working with both primary and secondary pupils who have special educational needs, including autism, to help them access the curriculum and achieve their potential. You will work closely with class teachers to promote independence, confidence and social inclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to pupils to access learning objectives.
• Encourage independence, self‑esteem and social inclusion for all SEND pupils.
• Assist teachers in maintaining a safe, positive learning environment and managing behaviour.
• Prepare classrooms, resources and ICT equipment for lessons.
• Observe pupil performance, record progress and share concerns with teachers.
• Support pupils during assessments, examinations and educational visits.
• Use ICT and other resources to enhance learning experiences.
• Collaborate with teachers, external professionals and colleagues to ensure consistent support.

Required profile

• Proven experience supporting pupils with SEN, ideally including autism spectrum conditions.
• Understanding of strategies for social, communication and learning needs.
• Patient, empathetic and committed to inclusion and wellbeing.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Reliable, professional and safeguarding‑aware.

Required skills

• ICT proficiency for classroom use.
