SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Autism Support)

About the role
We are looking for a confident SEN Teaching Assistant to join our inclusive secondary school’s Autism Resource Base in Plymouth. The successful candidate will work directly with students who have Autism Spectrum Condition, helping them develop independence and reach their academic potential.
Key responsibilities
- Support students with Autism Spectrum Condition in classroom and small‑group settings.
- Adapt teaching materials and methods to suit individual learning needs.
- Assist pupils with routines, transitions and sensory requirements throughout the school day.
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and social interaction.
Required profile
- Experience working with ASD or managing challenging behaviour.
- Strong behaviour‑management skills.
- Resilient, calm and adaptable in a dynamic classroom environment.
- Genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
Required skills
- Knowledge of autism‑specific strategies and interventions.
- Ability to modify resources and lesson plans.
