SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary (SEMH & Challenging Behaviour)

About the role

We are seeking experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to support secondary students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour on the Wirral. The role involves 1:1 and small‑group support within a school or specialist provision, working closely with teachers and pastoral staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group assistance to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Support pupils displaying challenging behaviour using de‑escalation techniques.
• Collaborate with teachers and pastoral teams to deliver tailored interventions.
• Help create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.
• Promote positive behaviour, engagement and emotional regulation strategies.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a secondary school, PRU or SEN setting.
• Confidence supporting students with challenging behaviour and SEMH conditions.
• Strong behaviour management skills.
• Resilience, patience and ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
