SEND EHC Coordinator – Mediation Specialist

About the role

The SEND EHC Coordinator will support Section B, F and I mediation activities for school‑aged children, helping the Local Authority manage increasing demand and deliver timely, high‑quality engagement with families. The role involves preparing, leading and recording mediation meetings to ensure effective outcomes for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare for mediation meetings by reviewing Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans, case histories and the Local Authority position.
• Liaise with families and professionals before mediation to clarify disputed issues.
• Lead mediation meetings, representing the Local Authority professionally.
• Record outcomes and agreed actions following each mediation.
• Collaborate with casework teams to ensure agreed amendments are implemented promptly.
• Support consistency in Local Authority responses and share learning across mediation cases.

Required profile

• Strong statutory SEND knowledge and experience.
• Thorough understanding of Education, Health and Care Plan processes.
• Experience representing Local Authorities in mediation proceedings.
• Previous experience in SEND mediation.
