SEND Teaching Assistant – Chelmsford

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Chelmsford, Essex. The role starts in September 2026 and is full‑time, offering a supportive environment for both new graduates and experienced assistants.

Key responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the class teacher to deliver inclusive learning for pupils with a range of abilities.
• Provide one‑to‑one or small‑group support to students with special educational needs.
• Supervise pupils during lunch, break times, field trips and other out‑of‑class activities.
• Collaborate with external specialists and adopt a multi‑agency approach when required.

Required profile

• Current DBS check on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
• Patient, compassionate, calm and approachable with strong rapport‑building skills.
• Desire to make a positive impact on young people’s lives.
• Experience working with children or young people.
• GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and Maths.
• Teaching Assistant qualification or related experience is desirable but not essential.

Required skills

• Knowledge of the additional needs of children with SEND and how to support them.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good communication skills with pupils, staff and external partners.
