About the role
We are seeking a dedicated SEND Youth Mentor / Support Staff member to join a specialist education setting in Bury. This full‑time, term‑time only position supports children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and additional needs, helping them thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for students with autism and related needs.
- Assist pupils in accessing learning activities and following daily routines.
- Implement behaviour support strategies aligned with individual support plans.
- Promote development of communication, social interaction and independence.
- Collaborate with teachers and therapists to meet learning objectives.
- Monitor progress, maintain accurate records and report as required.
- Support students during breaktimes, educational outings and school trips.
- Maintain a safe, structured and positive learning environment.
Required profile
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND, ASC or related needs (or transferable experience from youth work, residential care, mentoring, etc.).
- Strong communication and organisational abilities.
- Calm, reliable and adaptable, able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs.
- Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one) and registration on the Update Service.
- Right to work in the UK and professional references covering the last two years.
