Senior Accounts Payable Officer – Maternity Cover

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accounts Payable Officer to provide maternity cover for a busy Local Government finance team in Wembley. The role is office‑based, full‑time (5 days a week) and offers an immediate start.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day Accounts Payable operations and process supplier invoices within agreed timescales.
• Administer Procure‑to‑Pay processes and resolve invoice, payment and supplier queries.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls and governance frameworks.
• Reconcile supplier statements, investigate discrepancies and support month‑end/ year‑end close.
• Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to maintain smooth payment operations.
• Identify and implement process improvements and provide ad‑hoc support to the wider finance team.

Required profile

• Significant experience in Accounts Payable, preferably within a Local Government environment.
• Strong understanding of financial controls, governance and compliance.
• Proven ability to manage complex, high‑value and high‑volume transactions.
• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and stakeholder management.
• Effective team player with solid communication abilities.
