Senior Accounts Payable Specialist

About the role

The Senior Accounts Payable Specialist will lead the day‑to‑day accounts payable function for a fast‑paced finance team in Watford. This role combines operational management, team leadership and continuous process improvement while ensuring compliance with company policies and financial regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounts payable activities to ensure efficient and accurate processing of supplier invoices, credit notes, employee expenses and payment requests.
• Lead, coach and support the accounts payable team, acting as the primary escalation point for supplier queries.
• Coordinate payment runs and support effective cash‑flow management.
• Reconcile supplier accounts, resolve discrepancies and maintain strong financial controls.
• Monitor key performance indicators and identify opportunities to improve service delivery and efficiency.
• Collaborate with finance and operational teams to support purchasing and payment processes.
• Assist with system improvements, process enhancements and automation initiatives.
• Support month‑end and year‑end financial reporting activities.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline (desirable).
• Professional accounting qualifications or finance‑related certifications advantageous.
• Previous experience in an accounts payable function, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of end‑to‑end accounts payable processes and supplier relationship management.
• Exposure to financial systems and accounting software.
