Senior Building Surveyor – Design & Project Management

About the role

We are seeking a Senior/Chartered Building Surveyor to join an expanding practice in Liverpool. The role involves client‑facing work and ownership of technically varied projects across new build, refurbishment and education sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design development and guide Architectural Technologists using AutoCAD.
• Manage projects through all RIBA Plan of Work stages.
• Advise clients on feasibility, options, budgets and delivery strategies.
• Prepare scheme designs, specifications, costings and programme schedules.
• Produce tender documentation and recommend procurement routes and contractor appointments.
• Administer contracts and oversee project delivery from inception to completion.
• Ensure projects meet agreed quality, budget and timeline.
• Prepare and manage Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) applications for Department for Education funding.
• Conduct building surveys, diagnose defects and propose repairs.
• Advise on maintenance strategies, PPM schedules and lifecycle planning.
• Handle planning applications and ensure compliance with Building Regulations, health & safety and accessibility legislation.

Required profile

• Experienced Building Surveyor with a strong consultancy background.
• MRICS or MCIOB qualification (or working towards chartership).
• Proven experience delivering projects for public‑sector clients, preferably in education.
• Strong technical, organisational and commercial awareness.
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
