Senior Childcare Advocate (Solicitor/Barrister) – Locum

About the role

This locum position is for a Senior Childcare Advocate within a well‑established London local authority legal team. The role focuses on high‑level advocacy in public law childcare proceedings, allowing you to concentrate on courtroom work without managing a caseload.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct hearings on behalf of the local authority in Family Court.
• Draft legal advice, opinions, and documentation for childcare cases.
• Assist with case preparation and support the wider legal team.
• Deliver training and guidance to colleagues as required.
• Contribute to service improvement initiatives across the legal department.

Required profile

• UK‑qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a current practising certificate.
• Significant experience handling public law childcare matters.
• Confidence to conduct Family Court hearings independently.
• Strong advocacy, communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Previous experience working for a local authority legal team or in a public sector childcare environment.
