Senior Childcare Lawyer (Locum)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Lawyer specialising in child care law to join a busy Legal Services team within a Wembley‑based Local Authority on a locum basis. The role is focused on advocacy, representing the Council in public law child‑care hearings, with no ongoing caseload responsibility.

Key responsibilities

• Attend and conduct court hearings on behalf of the authority.
• Provide high‑quality advocacy in family court proceedings.
• Draft legal advice, opinions and related documentation.
• Support case preparation and assist the wider legal team when hearings are not scheduled.
• Deliver training, guidance and legal research on child‑care law matters.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with full advocacy rights.
• Significant experience in public child‑care law and family court advocacy.
• Proven ability to conduct hearings independently and confidently.
• Strong knowledge of legislation, case law and court procedures relating to child protection and care proceedings.
• Experience within local government is highly desirable.
