Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer – Radiation Monitoring System

About the role

Rolls‑Royce SMR is seeking a Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer to lead the design and development of the Radiation Monitoring System for a small modular nuclear reactor. You will shape system architecture, define specifications, and ensure the solution meets safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Translate high‑level plant requirements into detailed Radiation Monitoring System specifications.
• Define system design, component selection, and integration across safety‑classified and non‑classified C&I domains.
• Collaborate with safety, process, mechanical and systems engineering teams to align solutions with overall plant architecture.
• Produce verification and validation plans, test strategies, and evidence packages.
• Support procurement, commissioning, operation and maintenance considerations.
• Contribute to safety case development and regulatory engagement.
• Mentor junior engineers and manage technical interfaces with suppliers.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering C&I systems through the full design and implementation lifecycle.
• Background in highly regulated sectors such as nuclear, defence, aerospace, rail or oil & gas.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally and communicate technical decisions clearly.
